Men of prayer

Weekly call to Prayer
Wednesday noon...or when you are able

That every man grow in his relationship with Jesus Christ through an effective men’s ministry in every congregation.

This is an invitation for you to join in prayer each week with men throughout the church at noon on Wednesday... or when you are able. We are praying for revival/renewal for men throughout the ELCA and beyond. This includes the men in your life, for the support of ministry with men churchwide.

Luke 5:1-11:  1One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God, 2he saw at the water's edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets. 3He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.4W hen he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch." 5Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets." 6When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. 7So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sin8When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at Jesus' knees and said, "Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!" 9For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken, 10and so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon's partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, "Don't be afraid; from now on you will catch men." 11So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him.

Question(s): What was your first paying job? What do you think Peter was thinking in verse 5? What does his response say about his relationship to Jesus? When was the first time, if ever, you responded to Jesus like Peter? What’s it going to take for you to “leave everything and follow Jesus”?

(Scripture verses and questions from the Master Builders Bible for Men)

Our prayer for all of us as leaders is that our spiritual vision would be so clear that we would see Jesus only (Matthew 17:8).

Men, once again the purpose of these weekly encounters is to pray for renewal, and revival in the church- beginning with men. Let us be relentless in our prayer that this ministry will be one that supports that renewal/revival among men.

PLEASE PRAY

  • For our leadership- including our staff, Board, Young Men’s Ministry Council, Development Council, and synod and congregational men’s leaders, that those of us in leadership keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Our focus is for men to have a growing relationship with Jesus.
  • For Building Men for Christ leadership training and One Year to Live retreats being planned in the months ahead.
  • For the men in your life and beyond- that they might come to a deeper relationship with Jesus.
  • For our ministry through leadership development, Bible ministry, events and ministry with/to young men.
  • Thank God that through faithful supporters He continues to supply the needs of LMM so that this ministry continues to grow.  Please continue to pray.

Finally- please pray that those of us in leadership keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Our focus is for men to have a growing relationship with Jesus.

On behalf of the leadership of Lutheran Men in Mission- thank you so much for your prayer support!
