Men of prayer

Weekly call to Prayer
Wednesday noon...or when you are able

That every man grow in his relationship with Jesus Christ through an effective men’s ministry in every congregation.

This is an invitation for you to join in prayer each week with men throughout the church at noon on Wednesday... or when you are able. We are praying for revival/renewal for men. This includes the men in your life, for the support of ministry with men churchwide.

Luke 13:10-17:  10On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, 11and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. 12When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, "Woman, you are set free from your infirmity." 13Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God. 14Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue ruler said to the people, "There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath." 15The Lord answered him, "You hypocrites! Doesn't each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? 16Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?" 17When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing.

Question(s):  Are you a more “the rules are meant to be broken” or “play it by the book” kind of person? Give an example. What does verse 11 tell you about Dr. Luke’s knowledge of medicine? Of spiritual phenomenon? How does Jesus expose the ruler’s hypocrisy? What tensions between caring for people and keeping religious rules do you experience?

(Scripture verses and questions from the Master Builders Bible for Men)

Our prayer for all of us as leaders is that our spiritual vision would be so clear that we would see Jesus only (Matthew 17:8).

Men, once again the purpose of these weekly encounters is to pray for renewal, and revival in the church- beginning with men. Let us be relentless in our prayer that this ministry will be one that supports that renewal/revival among men.

PLEASE PRAY

  • For our leadership- including our staff, Board, Young Men’s Ministry Council, Development Council, and synod and congregational men’s leaders, that those of us in leadership keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Our focus is for men to have a growing relationship with Jesus.
  • For Building Men for Christ leadership training and One Year to Live retreats being planned in the months ahead.
  • For the men in your life and beyond- that they might come to a deeper relationship with Jesus.
  • For our ministry through leadership development, Bible ministry, events and ministry with/to young men.
  • Please continue to pray for the financial support so that this important ministry may continue to expand and grow.

Finally- please pray that those of us in leadership keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Our focus is for men to have a growing relationship with Jesus.

On behalf of the leadership of Lutheran Men in Mission- thank you so much for your prayer support!
