What an
exciting time to be a man at St. John’s in Littlestown! Not
because we held a successful fundraiser (that is being used
to bring people hope), and not because we just completed our
first Golf Tournament this weekend (which was a resounding
good time), and not because we continue to grow our weekly
Bible Study (touching more men and their families), but
because of the possibilities that lay ahead for us.
Originally, w hen Friday night member Don Bair challenged us
with a $2,000.00 goal to raise funds for victims of
Hurricane Kartina in D’Iberville, MS, we thought, “Oh, boy.
This is our first time doing anything like this, I wonder if
we can pull it off”. For weeks we prayed and planned during
our Bible Study. We brought in an expert to help us, and in
turn gained a new Brother on Friday night. We asked for
help, and received it ten-fold. We asked for donations, and
they exceeded our expectations to the point that God has
been revealed through the actions of the people in our faith
community. We prayed for guidance and success, and were
granted it beyond our wildest dreams; we exceeded our
fundraising goal by 39%, and surpassed the number of people
fed at our pancake breakfast by 13%.
The golf
tournament was played against the backdrop of one of the
best days God has given us so far this Spring. The groups
that played enjoyed the weather, a competitive game, and
fellowship afterward. Old friendships were renewed, and new
ones began. And we ate better than we should have.
To those
who planned, organized, prayed, worked, prepared or served
food, cleaned, donated items for use or as give-a-ways, or
otherwise gave of themselves in the way Jesus taught us, we
thank you and continue to thank God that you are a part of
our Family. To those who gave gift cards or money, I know
the people of D’Iberville whose lives it will change are
appreciative as well. Neither event would have been a
success without you.
What’s
next for the Men’s Group? We are sponsoring the Spring
Church Picnic this year, we plan to paint Karn’s Fellowship
Hall this summer (and will need help), and we are looking
into a retreat to Camp Nawakwa in the fall. All this from
just a bunch of ordinary guys who meet on a regular basis to
get to know God, ourselves, and each other. Yes it is an
exciting time indeed for the men of St. John’s in
Littlestown. Be a part of something good. |
